FAQ

Who are your typical clients?

While each of our clients are looking to fulfill specific needs, a third of our clients are commercial organizations looking for us to execute a visionary indoor garden concept to help drive business goals.

A third think of us as personal trainers helping coach them to a gardening vision of their own. They might have a large reading nook or balcony now, but they’re already envisioning their larger dream garden.

The last third of our clients refer to us as full-time garden nannies. They need an efficient vision that can be executed between challenging schedules and with minimal input.

What is the design process?

Design Consultation — consultation where we walk the space, listen to your garden goals and share our process.

Space Planning — after our consultation, we provide design hour estimates and an initial written concept. These are free written ideas presented before the contract is signed. Once signed, we put together a master plan that includes alternate concepts, space and floor plans, mood boards, potential plant palettes, pot, container and furniture ideas plus soil requirements and an initial materials budget which is updated as we make choices.

Plant Design — this is where we finalize decisions and iterate on concepts. Most of this time is dedicated to choosing our plant palette and re-arranging floor plans but every project is different.

Installation — we source and install all plants, pots, soil and hardware ourselves.

How long does the process take?

From consultation to concept to signed agreement is generally 2 weeks. Another 2 weeks in the space planning and design stage then 2 weeks to source and install the project. This is highly dependent on time of year and scope of project but 4-8 weeks is a reliable window.

What is a typical maintenance schedule?

To understand your plants and your environment, a weekly maintenance schedule is preferred. As we collect data and get a better understanding of your space the schedule may change to better support you and your garden.

How much do you charge?

We charge a competitive hourly rate per geographic market — we charge a higher rate for design services than for installation and maintenance services. If we’re sourcing rare or unique dressings for your space, we charge a markup for the sourcing services. Edible gardens require more visits per week.

What is climate analysis?

When we start any collaboration, it’s important for us to learn and understand your environment. We use sensors to measure temperature, humidity and VPD levels so we know your plants will thrive before we place them.Outdoor climates are more an art than a science.

How does a corporate membership work?

We offer monthly maintenance plans for businesses in the tri-state region. Our typical maintenance schedule is ~1 hour a week, but can vary based on the number of plants. This is solely based on your existing plant life.

What is an edible garden?

Our edible gardens are most often called kitchen gardens that blend ornamental flower beds with edible plants. Think lettuce next to hydrangeas or tomatoes next to a native wildflower bed. Our goal is to draw you into a daily relationship with the food you eat. We typically use a mix of permaculture techniques to achieve a ‘beyond-organic’ approach to growing food for your family, company or school.
